Gearing Up for Major Change in Recycling Regulations in Wales
From April next year, all businesses, charities and public sector organisations will have to sort their waste for recycling, and waste collectors will have to change the way they manage waste from workplaces. With Welsh Government funding, WRAP has developed a user-friendly resource which provides an interactive, visual representation of Wales’ plastics, paper and wood sectors, plotting business locations and helping to identify where there are clusters. The IPCC publishes its sixth synthesis report based on all the latest data, research and modelling of climate change, undertaken by thousands of people from across the world. The report highlights the 'unprecedented challenges' we face and that the pace and scale of action so far are insufficient. Neath Port Talbot Council and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David are the latest partners to formally sign up to the Swansea Bay Healthy Travel Charter. They join a dozen other organisations that have made a 2 year commitment to promote active travel and sustainable transport through 17 agreed actions.

On leaving office, Wales' first Future Generations Commissioner, Sophie Howe, published a list of 100 Changemakers that have made a notable contribution to pushing forward the Future Generation Act. Several LCSB partners featured on the list including colleagues from Down to Earth, Awel Aman Tawe and 4theRegion. Tom Porter was also included for establishing the Healthy Travel Charter programme and Amanda Davies of SBU Health Board for her community-focused work. The Welsh Council for Voluntary Action, with Welsh Government support, has launched a grant scheme to provide financial and technical support to social enterprise start-ups to help them embed climate-friendly practice into their operations. Environmental bodies have urged the UK Government to think twice about proposals to heat homes in the future using 'blue' hydrogen, created from natural gas. Instead, they are suggesting a focus on other technologies such as electric heat pumps and the use of 'green' hydrogen, produced using renewables, to be used in transport and industry.
